Is there an express version of Oracle for a system running Windows Vista 64-bit?
Question by asrolling: Is there an express version of Oracle for a system running Windows Vista 64-bit?
I have a 64-bit system and I have tried Oracle 10g express edition but it just gave me a zip file with no application to install. I have a database class and I need Oracle for the course. Please help.

Where did you get this kit from ?
OracleExpress is distributed as a self-extracting executable. Just run it and it will install itself.
Get the right version from the Oracle Technology Network: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/xe/htdocs/102xewinsoft.html
There are two variants to choose from. One only supports the isolatin1 character set (so is good for US and Western European alphabets). For anything else, choose the Unicode variant.
See also the installation guides (linked from the same page).
Oops. Just realized you have a 64-bit system. Express is only provided for 32-bit platforms.
Your best bet then is to download and install the real thing. Get it from here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/index.html
Make sure to pick the right version for your platform.
Watch out however that you will be downloading an evaluation version (make sure to read the OTN License Agreement)
